It’s not an expensive piece but she needed it back together .  The  antique opalescent  pressed glass bowl was broken into many pieces.

Antique Crystal Bowl Repair Broken Glass Foot

This bowl had a place of honor on grandmas dinning room table for over four decades .  There  it sat  with a stack of pennies taking the place of the missing foot. Grandmas birthday is coming up and wouldn’t it be nice to get the bowl repaired .  The local antique  dealers  and glass shops said it couldn’t be repaired .  What they should have said is they can’t repair it and they don’t know any one who can.

Cut glass bowl with a missing foot.   The leg broke off and was missed placed over forty years ago .

First step in the repair process to remove what was left of the broken leg on the cut crystal bowl.

By casting a mold of one of the good  glass legs I was able to make a new glass foot .

We were able to give grandma her pennies back after bonding the new foot to the bottom of the antique glass  bowl

The local “experts ”  got it wrong .  It  can be restored .  The crystal repair projects I work on now come from all over the world.

Crystal repair is now high tech with the use of UV adhesives and high temp molds .  Antique  cut glass bowls like this one are repairable . Crystal repair has come a long way in the last thirty years .

Grandmas antique glass cake plate was broken during washing.  Hot water was the problem it happens over and over again.  I seen it many times.  The good part about heat cracks is they are very clean breaks. The pieces fit back together and there are no small chips.  This  antique glass plate looked great after the repair.

Pressed Glass Cake Plate

A  broken cake plate came in for repair. Its a pressed glass cake plate with ruby red ring.

The antique glass bottle had a broken stopper and the pieces were missing. I have some old black glass call vitolite and I used it to make a new stopper top.

 I cut off the top of  the broken glass stopper. I used a 1 1/2″ diamond  core drill and a hole in the black glass .  Inside the dill was a 1 3/8 core I used to make the new top for the stopper.

I think the bottles belongs to a witch and she has one that says eye of nuet also.

In a couple of years no one will remember how or who broke the dish or even that it was repaired . The sign of a good repair. For over thirty years I have been duing antique glass repair.

Antique Glass Repair broken dish

I was sent an antique pressed glass butter dish that was missing a corner. The note with the broken glass dish read “Please do something.” I was able to do more than “something,” the dish is now completely restored. Here’s what I did, I made a casting of one of the thee remaining corners and created a mold. I then cast glass in to the mold, and came up this a rough glass corner. The grinding and polishing came next, and then I glued the piece in place. One final grind and polish, and now the dish can be used to hold butter, and a lot of memories.

Depession Glass Repair

Depession glass bowl  with two large pieces broken off and some smaller pieces missing  first I glued the broken pieces back in and the ground and polished what was left.  Pressed glass is sentimental because it was not expensive so every one had some. Grama then left it to the kids. I have little red shot glasses with handles that I got from my grama. Had my first shot of whiskey grama gave me at sixteen . It was awfull then and still is. Repairing depression glass or pressed glass is not cost effective but  you have to save it.
