Broken glass candlestick gets repaired
Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Crystal Candlestick repair, Glueings, Uncategorized | Comments Off on Broken glass candlestick gets repairedThe age old question of whether hiring a professional to make a repair or attempting to do it yourself is timeless. In this case, I was able to repair the original damage, and fix the damage from the attempted repair, as well. The old glue had yellowed, and the super glue finger prints needed to be removed. This kind of glue may be able to stick a man to a steel beam, but it won’t repair a delicate glass candlestick. Super glue is the wrong adheasive for glass. By letting the candle burn too low the candle cup was cracked. This is a common repair, and easy for me to do- send it to a professional.

Antique Glass Repair broken dish
Thursday, May 7th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Blowen Glass Replacements, Chipped Glass Repair, Chipped Glassware, Glueings | Comments Off on Antique Glass Repair broken dishI was sent an antique pressed glass butter dish that was missing a corner. The note with the broken glass dish read “Please do something.” I was able to do more than “something,” the dish is now completely restored. Here’s what I did, I made a casting of one of the thee remaining corners and created a mold. I then cast glass in to the mold, and came up this a rough glass corner. The grinding and polishing came next, and then I glued the piece in place. One final grind and polish, and now the dish can be used to hold butter, and a lot of memories.
That glob of glass I hope to make in to a glass corner to fit on this lid.

Swavorski train wreck gets repaired
Wednesday, May 6th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Crystal Repair Pictures, Glass Sculpture Repair, Glueings, Swarovski Crystal | Comments Off on Swavorski train wreck gets repairedWhat a train wreck! This swavorski crystal train came to me in about 25 pieces. It needed to be completely reassembled and glued into place, but I had not been given a picture of the original. Reassembling this train was a like a jigsaw puzzle. The fun part was creating a something beautiful from the pieces. I consider that crystal repair at its finest.

Glass Dome for clock with crack
Friday, May 1st, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Clock Glass, Glass Globe, Glueings | Comments Off on Glass Dome for clock with crackAn antique, glass, clock dome was brought to me because of a large crack. The crack will still be visible once it’s repaired, but the dome will be stable. I learned a long time ago from my old scientific glass blowing teacher how to control a crack. Now I can easily make cracks go wherever I choose. In this case, I was able to make the crack turn to the bottom of the dome. If left alone, the crack would have continued going up, and around, and eventually it would have ruined the dome. Now the crack is no longer a threat, and it can be easily hidden behind the clock. I am currently developing a new way of making glass domes like this one. In the future, I plan to offer replacement domes for customers with this type of damage.

Broken chandelier arm
Monday, April 20th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Antique lamp repair, Chandelier Repair, Crystal Repair Pictures | Comments Off on Broken chandelier armThis antique crystal chandelier suffered a broken arm. These kinds of injuries happen all the time. Be careful when you move the dinnig room table so that someone doesn’t walk into the chandlier. Fortunately, broken glass arms from chandeliers are easily repaired, and they hold up very well. This is a small arm, and it is not very old. The older arms are made of solid glass without any space to run the wire, because they were originally made as candelabras.

Crystal Repair broken decanter
Saturday, April 18th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Broken Decanter Repair, Broken glassware, Chipped Glass Repair, Glueings | Comments Off on Crystal Repair broken decanterThis crystal decanter came to me with a cracked neck and a stuck stopper. The neck of this decanter was broken in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the stopper. After I was able to remove the stopper, I had to run the crack so I could remove the piece and reattach it with glue. Running a crack can be tricky. The heat must be applied in a very controlled way so that the crack can be redirected to prevent further damage.
If you look very closely you can still see were it was repaired, but the decanter is now stable and there is no worry that the crack will run through the body of the decanter. Fill with Rum and enjoy life.

Crystal Repair cut glass lamp repair
Thursday, April 9th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Antique lamp repair, Chandelier Repair, Glass Globe, Glueings | Comments Off on Crystal Repair cut glass lamp repairThis lead glass lamp sat on the night stand for decades before it was accidentally broken into pieces. The cut glass pattern on this crystal lamp help hide the glass restoration. There were some minor pieces missing, but we were able to discretely fill those areas. Crystal repair has greatly improved with the new generation of ultra violet cured adhesives that don’t yellow, and are to provide a permanent fix.

Crystal Repair Sculpture
Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Glass Sculpture Repair | Comments Off on Crystal Repair SculptureThese pieces came to me broken off the black glass base, and with deep chips in both pieces. Using a Bridgeport Milling Machine with a diamond tool, I resurfaced the black glass cube and removed all the chips. Hand lapping the cube from 120 to 220 to 400 grit, them pumice, and finally ceriumoxide brought back the high shine. The original placement of the kiss was retained so as not to alter the overall aesthetic appeal of the piece. The only clue that there has been a repair is that the base is now slightly smaller.

Antique Glass Repair Venetian Glass Bottle Repair
Friday, March 20th, 2009 Posted in All Repair Projects, Broken Decanter Repair, Broken Stem, Chipped Glass Repair, Crystal Repair Pictures | Comments Off on Antique Glass Repair Venetian Glass Bottle RepairA gorgeous Venetian glass bottle was brought to me for repair. The owner wisely researched many different repair shops before finding me. Not all repair shops have the experience to restore antique pieces like this one. I love doing this type of repair. The key to fixing this antique bottle was to find a new foot, and perform a transplant. The broken foot, or what was left of it, was cut off and polished flat. Using a UV cured adhesive, the new foot and the bottle were bonded together. The new foot was from a Venetian Vase from many years ago. My parts department (see picture) is the result of working with antique pieces for thirty years. I was pleased to find such a good match for this bottle, even the gold trim matched. Antique glass repair is enjoyable for me, and I truly love restoring antique glass artwork. In addition to crystal repair, I can blow glass, slump or bend glass, stain, paint, bevel, curve, engrave, etch, and cut glass.
