A large beautiful glass fish was broken of the base and had three large chips to each of its fins.

The large crystal bull had a chipped and broken horn.  A big part of the horn was missing. I used the horn on the other side to make a pattern . Then I made a new horn.

The first step was to remove what was left of the mane.

 

Grind and polish area smooth.

 

 

Create the new glass mane.

 

 

Attach the new glass mane to the Italian sculpture.

 

 

The sculpture is ready to be displayed.

The Steuben Crystal Trout had a broken fin . The glass fin was broken in two place and was chipped. I used the bottom of a broken Steuben candlestick to form the new fin.

The crystal sculpture was broken and the head and the arm are missing. It was purchased in Italy while traveling.  I made a new glass head and arm but I have to attach them  to the body.

The  broken Lalique Crystal  statue was a present give to a customer in his eighties. He received it  when he was a young man.  It holds  great sentimental value and he wanted to repair it rather than replace it.  Some one tried to repair it. It was covered in glue and a number of large pieces were missing. I will need to recreate the missing piece.  

 

I use a foot from a broken Lalique compote to make the block .

 

Shaping the block to  form legs.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The final step is to etch the glass to match.  If you look close there is a small line were it was  glued.

The solid Orrefors Crystal obelisk had several large chips on the corners .  The geometric shape requires grinding the entire side to retain the shape .

The glass fish was broken  years ago and they didn’t save all the pieces.  There was a large part of the tail missing.  I was able to shorten the tail and make the bottom fin a little smaller so it looks proportional.   I tried to cast a new part of the tail but matching the color was not an option.

 

Repairing broken crystal and antique glass takes a little imagination.

 

 

The tail is about 3/8 of an inch shorter now .  I

This is one of a pair.  The client was very happy with the restoration and her husband was even happier .  He’s the one that broke it.

The broken  glass leopard is made from  borosilicate glass  ( pyrex ).   This type of glass  has a very low expansion coefficient so it  can be reheated .   There is a small piece missing were the leg broke.

 

Most pieces of glass can not be fused back together so I use UV cured adhesive .

I used a torch and fused the broken glass leg .   I shaped the leg and fill in the area were the chip was missing.   I frosted the area to matched .

The glass fruit basket has been broken for years.  Several leaves were broken off and lost .   I needed to recreate some new leaves an attach them .  I used green , yellow and white glass to make the new leaves.

The ear was broken off and lost from a very expensive DAUM Nancy glass figurine.  I had to sculpt part of a new ear to fit on the dark amber Daum Glass horse .  Matching the very dark amber color was my first challenge . I made a dozen or more glass ears be for finding one I liked .    Daum glass  started with the notary Jean Daum      Daum  started making glass for watches and mirrors.            (1825-1885).

The antique  glass fish was made by Steuben . Some time ago the fin was broken off and lost.  I made a new fin and attached it.

 

 

The Steuben Crystal repair starts with grinding off what was left of the broken fin.

 

I made the replacement crystal fin.

 

 

 

I attached the new fin and the Steuben Crystal repair was complete.

Some times the best way to repair a piece is a minor change.   A beautiful art glass vessel came in with a broken base.  The art glass compote was make from a soda lime glass so fusing the pieces together was not an option. Reheating would change the color of the glass.  The base was badly broken and pieces were missing so using an adhesive would have shown .  The artist was contacted but returning for  restoration was not an option. The  making a new base was the best solution.

A common problem with Swarovski Crystal is the adhesive fails.  Over the years I have repair many pieces that have just fallen apart. The new adhesives  are very strong. It is important to clean off all the old adhesive .
