Repair Scratched Crystal Bowl polish out wear
August 23rd, 2010 by Marc Konys - posted in All Repair Projects, Antique Glass Repair, Sick GlassUsed and abused for many years this crystal bowl had many many scratches. It holds many memories for years it was on gramas table . It held keys ,coins and pins. The question is I can restore the bowl to its beauty and shine.
How to polish out scratches from crystal ? This bowl is an example of the process . I made a cork wheel that fit into the bowl. I then used some 3f (FFF) pumice and bridgeport milling machine to spin the wheel. I mix the pumice with water untill it was like a milk shake. You have to be sure not to heat up the glass while polishing . The heat will crack the glass. The final polish is done with a felt wheel and cerium oxide.
